This entire block has not been maintained for many years and the buildings have fallen into disrepair. These buildings are contaminated with hazardous substances (asbestos) which makes this entire block unsuitable for redevelopment without remediation.
The City of Clinton will be applying in November 2022 for Brownfields Clean-up Grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This grant will assist the City in demolishing the structures along this corridor as well as a reuse planning to help prepare the area for redevelopment. The City will then seek a developer to redevelop the property along this final stretch of South 4th Street.
The City is also applying for an Assessment Grant that will be used in key locations in the area from 1st Street, west to 5th Street and from 11th Avenue South to 3rd Avenue North. This grant will help the City assess sites in this target area that may need to be cleaned up.
Clinton residents who live in these target areas are encouraged to attend the upcoming meetings held by the City of Clinton on October 19, 2022 at 5:30 PM at City Hall located at 611 South 3rd Street in the Council Chambers.
